The population of our small community is ever-increasing: numerous apartment type homes are being constructed, manufacturing is again on the rise, and Hardy County continues to appeal as a summer getaway destination for many. As the need for our services continues to grow, so do the requirements placed on our aging apparatus and over 50-year-old station.

In order to remain on the forefront of protection for our community, we have placed the following five-year plan in action:

  1. Replace our overcrowded and aging building on recently acquired land adjacent to the current location. A cost estimated to be $8,400,000.
  2. Replace our 1999 first out “attack” unit with a slightly larger, more equipped truck. This apparatus was ordered in 2023 and is expected at any time. A cost of over $350,000.
  3. Replace our 1986 engine with a new, state of the art 107ft aerial ladder truck. This unit will be capable of performing a pumper truck ability and reaching the upper floors of homes and buildings that we currently cannot, saving victims at new heights and keeping our important staff off of damaged roofs while ventilating fires or controlling chimney fires. A cost of over $1,600,000.

Above all, these proposed new facilities and equipment will create significant positive impacts for the members of MVFC and our entire community. With increased capabilities comes increased safety of our responders to your emergency. Also, as the Insurance Standard’s Office (ISO) rating increases for MVFC, insurance costs for homeowners can decrease. While grant funding will be sought after for these expenses, the donations from the people we serve make an important difference and are essential to our success.

Help us to better serve our community today by making a tax-deductible donation to the MVFC. You may also send your donation by mail to 114 Kuykendall Ln., Moorefield, WV 26836. Our dedicated volunteers thank you for your past support and for your consideration in continuing to help during 2024; we couldn’t do it without you.
